Our Sunday morning Foundations class is currently studying the doctrine of the church and worship. As part of our class, we will be learning about the various parts of our worship service. I also want students to be able to experience a few very different varieties of worship services. So as part of our class, we will be going on three very different churches to experience how worship is done in various traditions.
The churches I have chosen do not necessarily have services that match ours exactly. Please pay attention to the times. I have chosen services that are as close as possible(if the church has multiple services). Also, if any parents would like to join us, or help drive, I would love to have you be part of our church visits. It might make for some interesting conversations about worship at Knox and other churches traditions. Just let me know if you are interested.
Here are the dates and times of departure (We will be leaving from Knox and returning after we are finished.)
February 16th: Mt. Zion Baptist Church (Seattle’s largest African American church) Departing JK time: 10:15 am | Service Time: 10:45 am
February 23rd: St. Spiridon Orthodox Cathedral (orthodox liturgy is the oldest form of liturgy that dates back to 4th century) Departing JK time: 8:45 am | Service Time: 9:30 am
March 2nd: Quest Church (an urban church striving to be an incarnational presence in a postmodern and post-church culture.) Departing JK time: 8:30 am | Service Time: 9:00 am
